What is RAQEQEC?
RAQEQEC is a way for 7th graders to answer their Short Response questions (specifically on the NYS ELA Test). This method, if done correctly, guarantees that a student will get a 2/2 on each short response on their NYS Test. Each worksheet focuses on each letter of the acronym; Restate, Answer, Quote 1, Explain, Quote 2, Explain, and Conclude. Each worksheet includes activities on how to do the task and a practice NYS passage & question.

This worksheet is about the E in RAQEQEC. E stands for Explaining Quotes. On the New York State Test, in order to get a 2/2, every quote inserted needs to be properly explained. Using quotes/details from the text AND explaining them is a skill that will be needed throughout all of middle, and high school. Explaining quotes are even more important that the quotes themselves, because without a proper explanation the quote is not valid. This worksheet includes some explaining quotes activities, a NYS practice passage and short response question, and a reflection.
